@wahoosfishtaco, Clueless People and the Real Start of the Fixie Movement

Random I know...  first two things I observed on my run today and the third while watching Crackle tonight.

@Wahoos:  Great Business Owners:

If you live in So Cal (or even if you don't, but you visited a few times) you've no doubt seen or maybe have been to Wahoo's Fish Taco.  Wahoo's is a great place with a cruisy surf atmosphere and great food.  My favorite is the charbroiled fish bowl (now served with brown rice - yay) and black beans.  Wahoos is owned by the Lam brothers Wing, Mingo and Ed. Their story is a true rags to riches story, from 1 location in Costa Mesa they've grown to over 50 locations in California, Hawaii, Colorado and Texas.  Anyway,  so I'm on my run and I notice that Wahoo's has opened a little snack shack along the boardwalk across the street from the Hilton...  nice spot.  Now.... for those beach goers that are too lazy to walk up to main street for their fish taco's they can just belly up to the cabana location.   Anyway,  as I'm running past I notice non other than Wing Lam.... talking with customers and seeing the order flow process.  I thought to myself "Now there's a great business owner.... here's a guy making tons of money and could be surfing any epic surf break in the world... but what is he doing ?  He's checking on customers and making sure everything is cool with his newest location.... rad Wing !  No wonder you and your brothers are so successful !

Clueless People:

So also on my run today I witsnessed several "clueless" episodes: all related to one another.  I'm not sure what it is about the boardwalk at the beach or perhaps the fact that people simply do a "mental checkout" when going to the beach.  But several times today.... (and more on the weekends) a ton of people will simply cross the boardwalk from the sand to the parking lot and vice versa without even looking either direction.  Parents with children, football jocks carrying ass loads of coolers, firewood and god knows what else, and of course groups of teenage girls who need to stand in the middle of the friggin' boardwalk to decide whether to layout, eat, call other friends or bail on the beach altogether and go shopping.  So many times there were super close near misses with bikes and beach goers it was ridiculous....  and I guess the bicyclists are at fault as well.... they are just jamming down the board walk @ like 60mph.  Can't imagine on the weekends there's not multiple collisions down on the boardwalk.  Don't be clueless ! If you're walking.... look both ways before you cross,  if you're riding....  don't mach a thousand miles an hour down on the boardwalk... that's what PCH is for!

Real Start of the Fixie Movement:

Tonight.... was looking @ what Crackle (Internet TV) had to offer.... and saw an 80's classic : Quicksilver staring Kevin Bacon.   He rocks a mean mustache in the beginning of the movie as well!  If you haven't seen it, and your into 80's movies,  check it out.  Premise is Bacon is a floor trader and buys a ton of stuff on margin and looses it all;  his money the parents retirement money the whole shebang.  He no longer has the nerve for trading so gets a job as a bike messenger.  Messengers (at least most of them)  ride fixies (Fixed Gear Bike that has no brakes your momentum is your brakes) ... although I can never understand how they stop quickly.  Anyway... about half way thru the movie they do all sorts of tricks on their bikes while they are not riding.  All the tricks that you see Fixie kids doing (or at least attempting) to do today.  So when you see the next kid rockin' skinny pedal pushers and riding a fixie.... now you'll know that he's not bleeding edge..... he's simply a Kevin Bacon Fan !  Everything in fashion or trends comes back around !   Trust me.... they're be a time when big cars are en vogue again!
