hustle.... even @ 82 years old.... you gotta have it!

so I'm riding along PCH on Saturday in Laguna Beach.  I'm at my halfway point and I'm turning around.  Like I always do,  I pull up at the light and wait to cross the street as Broadway and PCH is the "intersection of death" for a bicyclist.   Anyway,  as I'm waiting for the light I'm approached by this older dude handing out surely what I thought was going to be wasted printed propaganda.  I didn't even look at it, and instead stuffed it in the rear pocket of my riding jersey.

He went on to strike up a conversation with me about his Rally ten speed that he recieved for his 21st birthday that he still rides today.  He then followed up by announcing he was 82 years young.

It wasn't until I got home when I read the handout he gave me.  It's a 5 or 6 page kinkos' compilation of children's poem's about peace.  Thinking less about the message and more about the messenger,  I thought :  Now there's a true Hustler !

82 years old and handing out literature to every passerby spreading his peace message.  I'm no tree hugger,  enviromentalist or anti-nuclear wannabe protestor.  However,  I am an admirer of people who believe in something so strongly that they are willing to pedal their message to complete strangers knowing that maybe,  just maybe,  1 in 1,000 people they've touched will look deeper into the meaning of peace.

Mr. Man....  I don't know what your name is.....  but I think you're doing a great job! Nice Hustle!
